The first time I ever looted an Ocean Monument (this is William Myrl, BTW), I didn’t have the proper equipment. You’re supposed to bring potions of Water Breathing, enchant your gear with Aqua Affinity, or at least use sponges to soak up the water.
I did not.
Eschewing those advantages, I instead brought stacks of wood and stone, used lava to build a small cobblestone platform directly above the monument (as one does), and laid siege.
After fifteen seconds underwater, you start taking damage, which meant I needed to stay close to air. So I used dirt blocks to close off tiny sections as I went and removed the water with buckets. As if that wasn’t painstaking enough, just being in the vicinity of one of a monument’s three Elder Guardians afflicts the player with a curse that drastically reduces mining speed. It took me over an hour just to reach the first one.
I camped outside the Elder Guardian’s chamber, swam in with nothing but a wooden sword, and promptly died. As each run allowed me to land a smack or two, my victory was inevitable.
Book 3 of The Dark Lord of Crafting just released. Though Minecraft heavily influenced the original concept for this series, it doesn’t take place in that world, and you don’t have to have played to game to enjoy or understand it. Like me, the main character tends to go about things in his own way.
Thank you all for reading and supporting the story so far. Every review is a blessing, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Whether you’ve started reading the series yet or not, you can enter the giveaway below and pick which book you’d like to win.
