Hey everybody!
All told, I spent about two years writing The Dark Lord of Crafting, and even longer with the edits that went on during the publication process. A lot has changed for me since it started.
I no longer work at Subway, for one thing, and I moved from North Carolina to Kentucky to get a place with my girlfriend and our dog. I’m not a full-time writer, so it’s been amazing to see my stories reach new people, and I truly appreciate the support the series has gotten from readers.
For me, ending a series often becomes an exercise in frantically tying up as many loose ends as possible. One of those was that in Book 3, we unlock a recipe for an elixir of Turtle Mastery. The equivalent potion in Minecraft simply slows the player down and gives them damage resistance, and I wanted to do something more interesting with it for the Dark Lord of Crafting.
You can’t go wrong with turtles, I’ve always said. It’s turtles all the way down.
What’s next for me? I’ve got a few ideas, and I’ve had a few starts and stops to get a feel for them, but I haven’t settled on one yet. I’m sure I’ll have more to report later this year, but for now, I’m pleased to bring this series to a conclusion.
In honor of the release, I’ll be streaming Minecraft with the team of Shadow Alley Press on our Twitch channel — Twitch.tv/shadowalleystreams for a gaming AMA. Wait, you didn’t know we had a Twitch channel?
Well, it’s new. But it’s been fun to get it started. Hope you can swing by Thursday evening (6:30-8:00 PM EST) to ask questions or just to say hello.
Hearts and Stars,
William Myrl
