This is Mark Stallings, author of the Silver Coin Saga. I’m very excited to see its next installment, The Animals, come out. And, I’ve been working to finish out the third book in the series in a radically shorter timeline.
When James Hunter challenged me to write a Wuxia series, he opened up an outlet for my love of old Kung Fu movies and my background in martial arts. The Silver Coin Saga is the manifestation of both of those passions. When I came up with the idea for the series, I wanted to base the martial magic on a real-world style of martial arts: Xing Yi. That started the series off with The Elements. Most of us are familiar with the Western four elements. I focused on the Eastern five elements: water, wood, fire, earth, and metal. In Xing Yi, each element has a specific characteristic. In the books, it is the foundation for all of the Martial Magic that gets done.
But that isn’t enough. I really loved the ‘wire fu’ of those old movies and tried to bring out those crazy mystical techniques in The Animals.
It has only been with the support and extreme patience of you and my publisher that this book is coming into the light. A lot of hard road has been traveled during its creation. That’s why I am delighted for you to read it.
